Founded in 2009, the Leipzig based club are owned and operated by the Red Bull energy drink brand who purchased the playing rights of fifth-tier side SSV Markranstädt with the intentions of progressing the club to the Bundesliga within eight seasons. They play their home games at the Red Bull Arena, the largest football stadium in eastern Germany.
