About our Freedom Convoy news

Latest Freedom Convoy news, a series of protests and blockades in North America, that began in 2022 in Canada against Covid-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions.

The protesters drove hundreds of vehicles across the country and gathered in Ottawa, the capital city, where they staged a rally near the Parliament Hill. They demanded the abolition of all vaccine mandates and lockdowns in Canada. The convoy protest attracted support from some conservative and far-right groups, as well as celebrities and politicians from other countries. It also raised millions of dollars through online fundraising. However, the protest also faced criticism and opposition from the authorities, the media, and the public. The convoy protest caused traffic disruptions, economic losses, and security risks. It also sparked counter-protests and clashes with the police. The Canadian government did not give in to the protesters’ demands and invoked the Emergencies Act to restore order. The convoy protest lasted for about a month and ended in February 2022.

The criminal trial of Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, two of the key organizers of the Freedom Convoy, is underway in Ottawa. They are facing charges of mischief, obstructing police, counselling others to commit mischief and intimidation. The trial began on September 5, 2023, and was expected to last 16 days but has been delayed by legal wrangling, technical issues, and concerns over how police evidence was disclosed. The trial is ongoing, with its main focus on whether Lich and Barber encouraged protesters to defy police orders by remaining in Ottawa after authorities ordered everyone to clear the streets.

The lawyers of Lich and Barber are arguing about the admissibility of Facebook evidence, which includes videos and posts that show their involvement in the protest. The defence claims that the evidence was obtained without a warrant and violates their privacy rights.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau traveled to New Delhi for the 2023 G20 leaders' summit, where he met with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trudeau had suggested that he would address the issue of foreign interference in Canada upon meeting Modi. This refers to allegations that some foreign actors, including India, supported and funded the Freedom Convoy.
