About our Protests in South Korea news

Latest news on protests in South Korea, with coverage on any demonstrations and government responses in the East Asian country.

On 20 February 2024, around 9,000 trainee doctors walked out in response to the government's plans to increase medical school admissions, causing disruption and delays to surgeries at major teaching hospitals.

On 4 March, the South Korean government said it will take steps to suspend the licences of trainee doctors who have failed to return to work after the government-imposed deadline on 29 February. South Korea's health minister Cho Kyoo-hong has also said that authorities will start to visit hospitals to take legal action against doctors who have not yet returned to work.
