To mark the end of term, a celebratory reception event took place on Monday 22 April for our postgraduate students. Great that so many of our students and staff could attend this event. Professor Greg Gannon, Head of Íæż½ã½ã Business School, welcomed all the students and thanked them for attending.

Gain a CIM qualification while studying at Íæż½ã½ã American Univ… /news-events/news/gain-a-cim-qualification-while-studying-at-richmond-american-university-london/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 09:34:15 +0000 /?p=92358 Íæż½ã½ã American University London has been granted accreditation by The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for two of our undergraduate and three of our masters degrees.

Good news!

Íæż½ã½ã American University London has been granted accreditation by The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for two of our undergraduate and three of our masters degrees:

CIM is the leading professional body for marketers worldwide and exists to develop the marketing profession, maintain professional standards and improve the skills of marketing practitioners.

How will it work? Because these degree courses already cover some of the content in CIM modules, students will be exempt from taking those assessments as part of their CIM qualification, saving them time and money.  Recently graduated alumni from these programmes are also eligible to gain CIM qualifications.

The accreditation means that students and alumni will be given the opportunity to gain professional qualifications with CIM which are highly sought after by employers. It also means that CIM content is reflected in our own degrees which ensures we are equipping students with the best opportunities for a successful marketing and business career.

Maureen Wincott, Head of Learning Partnerships at CIM, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Íæż½ã½ã American University London. Some of their students now only need to pass one module to complete the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing or Professional Digital Marketing or two modules to complete the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing or Professional Digital Marketing. This will help students kick-start their marketing careers and fast-track their development.  We look forward to continuing to work closely with Íæż½ã½ã American University London to help students achieve their professional goals and gain the recognition that is valuable with employers in the marketing and business industries.â€

It was a hectic and non-stop fortnight for the small team from the University Board and the Board of Trustees who have just returned from a visit to China at the invitation of China Education Group. CEG is Íæż½ã½ã’s strategic partner and the leading provider of private higher education in the People’s Republic of China.

The trip, which was funded by CEG, began in Nanchang with a visit to the CEG headquarters where the team from Íæż½ã½ã American University London met with the CEG Co-Chairman, CEO, CFO and senior leaders for discussions related to our strategic partnership.  These included an exchange of ideas to strengthen the partnership, including summer school, training programmes, student recruitment, academic development and 3+M (three year degree and one year Masters) programmes.

From there, the team has travelled to a number of leading universities in the CEG portfolio around China, including:

  • Jiangxi University of Technology (JXUT), Nanchang
  • Yantai Institute of Science and Technology (YIST), Yantai
  • Chongqing Institute of Foreign Studies (CIFS)
  • Guangdong Baiyun University
  • Guangzhou College of Applied Science and Technology (GCAST)

Some of the highlights have included a presentation of QAA certification to the Chongqing Institute of Foreign Studies (CIFS) by President Phil Deans. The RAUL team also participated in an English language workshop with students from the Institute on the topic of ‘Cooking in Britain Today’. By ‘seeking truth from facts’ the group concluded that cooking in China is often superior.

A group of people are standing in front of a backdrop with logos, giving thumbs up in a conference room, suggesting a collaborative or celebratory occasion.

At Guangzhou Vocational and Technical University of Science and Technology, which is not part of CEG, the University signed a mutual agreement on a 3+M programme partnership and took part in a Q&A with students.

President Phil Deans made the following statement on his return, “This mission was invaluable in deepening and strengthening our relationship with CEG. The warmth, hospitality and friendship we encountered from our Chinese partners was remarkable and at times overwhelming.  We all learned a great deal about how to do business in China, and have made friendships which will endure for many years to come. We have drawn up a list of projects that the various CEG institutions are keen to pursue, which we expect to include further opportunities for faculty and staff to visit China.  We have returned from China confident in CEG’s long-term commitment to Íæż½ã½ã.â€

Results of 2023 Gender Pay Gap Report out /news-events/news/results-of-2023-gender-pay-gap-report-out/ Wed, 10 Apr 2024 09:00:00 +0000 /?p=93598 The results of the 2023 Gender Pay Gap (GPG) Report for Íæż½ã½ã American University London have just been published.

The results of the 2023 for Íæż½ã½ã American University London have just been published.

Companies with more than 250 employees have to publish an annual gender pay gap report which measures differences between the average (mean and medium) earnings of men and women who work at the University. Íæż½ã½ã American University London employed a total of 211 employees as at 5 April 2023, with 45 per cent of employees being male and 55 per cent female.

Here are the highlights:

  • The mean gender pay gap for the University is 5.55% (2022: 7.43%)
  • The median gender pay gap for the University is 5.59% (2022: 12.97%)
  • When student workers are excluded from the data, the University’s mean and median pay gaps are effectively zero (-0.49% & 0% respectively)

The University has also increased salaries for the lowest paid employees as it follows the Living Wage Foundation’s London Living Wage rate.

Dean Morley, Director of Human Resources at Íæż½ã½ã American University London, said, “It is encouraging to see that since the last GPG report in 2023, Íæż½ã½ã has reduced its overall mean pay gap by 1.88% and overall median pay gap by 7.38%. This progress strongly suggests that Íæż½ã½ã is heading in the right direction towards addressing gender pay inequalities at the University.

“Despite our relatively good results, we remain committed to reducing the gender pay gap through working with both faculty and staff during the recruitment and promotion of employees. We also use salary data from the UK Higher Education sector survey to inform decisions relating to salaries and benefits. Longer term we are also developing salary frameworks, clearer promotion criteria, and evidence-based gender monitoring. We will continue to seek to identify and address any barriers to gender equality.â€

What is the gender pay gap?

The gender pay gap is the difference between the average hourly earnings of a company’s male and female employees. When talking about the gender pay gap the median figure tends to be used rather than the mean.

What a wonderful event!  It was fantastic to see so many in the University community and beyond experiencing a cultural event on our campus organised by the London Sejong Institute with the Korean Traditional Culture Centre.

The Hanbok and Hanji workshop included professional models from Korea who were wearing a Hanbok (traditional Korean attire) while in the Hanji workshop, students, staff and visitors learned the art of making traditional Korean paper art.

A selection of Korean desserts were also on offer to make everyone’s day even sweeter.

Two people stand smiling beside a traditional Korean hanbok on a mannequin, with a sign for the King Sejong Institute Foundation in the background.
Three people in traditional Korean attire, known as hanbok, stand before a screen displaying text related to the King Sejong Institute Foundation.

Thank you to all those who organized this wonderful event and to all the participants.
